Farm Succession Workshop to be Offered at Potato Conference

BLACKFOOT, Idaho — Potato growers and members of the agricultural community will have the opportunity to attend an important workshop titled “Creating Sustainable Family Farms” as part of the 40th annual Potato Conference Jan. 24, 2008, at the Idaho State University Campus in Pocatello, Idaho. The workshop will take place at the Pond Student Union Building.
The workshop will be offered in two parts. “Creating Sustainable Family Farms: Part 1” will begin at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008. “Creating Sustainable Family Farms: Part 2” will begin at 10:30 a.m. that same morning. Both workshops will run approximately one hour. Mike Salisbury, a family business consultant, and Klade Williams will be the presenters.
Farm succession will be one of the primary areas of emphasis. The workshop’s aim will be to assist farmers in successfully transferring management and ownership from one generation to the next. This workshop is being made possible through PGI’s partnership with the USDA Risk Management Agency.
The Potato Conference is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, 2008. More information is available online at extension.ag.uidaho.edu/district4.
