Idaho Board Members Named to the U.S. Potato Board

BLACKFOOT, ID — Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns recently appointed 12 producer members from Idaho to serve on the U.S. Potato Board, with all terms beginning March 1 and ending on Feb. 28, 2009.

Reappointed to the board as producer members are: Emma L. Atchley of Ashton; Nic P. Behrend, Aberdeen; Gary L. Hansen, Rupert; Helen J. Lammey, Caldwell; Jann Moss, Declo; and Alan L. Taylor, Rigby.

The following newly appointed producer members are: Kent O. Bitter of Shelley; Nick M. Cummins, Murtaugh; Wayne A. Jensen, Idaho Falls; Melanie A. Likes, Shelley; Ronald D. Lockwood, Eden; and Shane R. Webster, Rexburg.

Authorized under the 1971 Potato Research and Promotion Act, the Potato Board is composed of producers, importers and a public member appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture. Producer members are nominated at state and local producer meetings and by mail ballot. Each state is entitled to at least one producer member, and additional members are allotted on the basis of the volume of production. The duration of a term on the U.S. Potato Board is three years. Growers can serve two consecutive terms and can start over with a new term if they are off the board for a year.
